Otters are a symbol of happiness, empathy and never-ending curiosity. They are problem solvers, nurturing and family. Otters would be easily thought of as a class clown.

Otters are always up for adventure. They are driven by curiosity. They will teach you to change your perspective. Doesn’t mean you forget about what you are going through, but with some fun you can change your outlook. If you are being drawn to the otter, then it is time to find the balance between your stressful and demanding life and a life filled with joy and happiness. Just remember if you hold on to the past you cannot move forward and embrace the change.

Otters are water creatures. They have an awareness of the subconscious, physic vibrations and emotions. They show you it is important to be adaptable and resourceful. Otters show it is important to have others around you, to swim right alongside you, to find happiness. They will teach you to lighten up, smile and laugh.
If you are born under the otter totem are more curious and inquisitive. They have good problem-solving skills and are move hands on. You are also more nurturing and are surrounded by family and friends. You love nature.
So, when an otter comes to you as a spirit guide in your dreams it is letting you know that there is something going on in your life that is pulling you under water and you can’t get back up. You are at the point of drowning from whatever it is going on. The otter is also there to so you there is a way out through adapting and having a positive mindset.

If there are multiple otters, then it is a symbol of family. Look at the water in your dream, if it is bumpy then focus on what is going on with your family and safeguard them. If the water is calm, then it is representing happiness for your family. If an otter is leaving his dam, then it is telling you it is time to leave a person in your life or a situation that is affecting your happiness.

The otter is playful and mischievous. It reminds us of when we were kids and full of wonder. Reminds us to keep life in balance and be a part of the community. They are out of the box thinkers and inventive.
The Cherokee call the otter, Cheoah. Native American legend or folklore describes the otter as a give of great fortunes. It is also a symbol of peace, kindness, friendship and family. They also viewed it as a trickster, but not in a malicious manner.
Celtic saw the otter as a protector of individuals as they were on their path to finding their own unique qualities. Ireland views the otter as sacred to Manannan mac Lir. Manannan mac Lir means “Son of the Sea” and Irish seas god. They also viewed it as sacred to Ceridwen. Ceridwen is the goddess of poetry, inspiration and transfiguration. The Irish name is Dobhar-chú, which means water dog, or the Scottish name is dratsie. They view the otter as having unyielding love and faithfulness.
Ask the otter to be your guide in life and keep you grounded and safe. Just remind yourself to take one step at a time. Savor the blessing in each moment.
